Rosary has offered me so much more than I could have ever imagined a high school could offer a student. I have been taught so much outside of the books, about life and about being a better person in general...

Do students have the same counselor all four years?
  •  We have a Freshman Counselor who serves as both the Academic and Personal Counselor for all the freshmen.
  • There are two Academic Counselors who serve grades 10 through 12.  Each class is divided alphabetically, and students remain with the same Academic Counselor sophomore through senior year.
  • We have a Personal Counselor who serves all students grades 10 through 12.  She meets with students individually or in groups, and is also available to meet with parents individually or with their daughter.

How can a student see her counselor?
  • She just needs to sign up on a board on her counselor’s door, and the counselor will call her in as soon as possible.  Counselors also initiate visits with students.

How often do parents meet with counselors?
  • All freshmen are scheduled to meet with their parent(s) and the Freshman Counselor for an informational/four-year planning meeting.
  • All seniors are scheduled to meet with their parent(s) and Academic Counselor during the month of October to discuss college applications.
  • Counselors are happy to schedule appointments as requested with students and parents.
  • The Counseling Department presents an evening parent meeting for each grade level.  The 9th and 10th grade presentations address both academic and social issues at each grade level.  The 11th grade presentation is for students and parents, and at this time the PSAT score reports are returned and interpreted.  The 12th grade presentation for both students and parents focuses on the college application process.

Is tutoring available?
  • Some teachers offer regular after school sessions.  Students are always advised to first see the teacher if they need extra help with a subject.
  • Drop-in tutoring is available on a daily basis during lunch time in Room 104.  National Honor Society members staff this room every day.
  • Students can sign up to be matched with an individual NHS tutor; the student and tutor will then determine a schedule for their tutoring sessions.
  • The Career Center has information about professional tutors, if the family is interested in pursuing that route.  We do not recommend any one particular tutor, but will share information that tutors have provided us about their programs.
What happens if a student does not pass a class?
  • Students must receive a passing grade in all required courses in order to remain on track for graduation (a D- is the lowest passing grade), so if a student receives an F in a required class, she must make that up before the following school year if she is going to return to Rosary.
  • A student who needs to make up a class must discuss the options directly with her counselor.  Courses can be made up during summer school sessions at Rosary, Servite, Mater Dei, various other private schools, and the student’s local public school.  Certain on-line courses are acceptable; again, the student needs to discuss the options with her counselor.
  • We strongly recommend that students make up any D grades, as most four-year colleges will accept only grades of C or better.  Again, each student should consult with her counselor.
  • Grades of repeated classes are added to the Rosary transcript.  The original grade remains and is the grade that is used in the calculation of the Rosary grade point average.  Most colleges will re-compute the grade point average, and will use just the new grade.

How does the Counseling Department help to prepare students for the college application process?
  • In addition to meeting with students individually to answer their questions and advise them, counselors visit classrooms to give presentations regarding preparation for standardized testing, test interpretation, career and college research, and the college application process.  The above mentioned Parent Night presentations are an important part of this process.
  • Rosary’s Career Center is open before, during, and after school hours.  It is staffed by our Career Center Coordinator and Counseling Assistant who are available to answer questions and assist students in their college and career research, as well as the application process.  Parents are welcome (and encouraged!) to visit the Career Center.
  • All are invited to use the Counseling Department link on the Rosary web page, where pertinent information is displayed and numerous appropriate links are offered.  Juniors and seniors receive printed newsletters presenting timely information; these are also available on our website.
