ROSARY SOCCER

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2010 ROSARY SOCCER TEAM!

THEY HAVE EARNED A BERTH INTO THE CIF PLAYOFFS- FIRST TIME IN 11 YEARS!

Congratulations!
Senior Kaleigh Moses will be attending the United States Air Force Academy, and will be playing Division I soccer!

The Rosary Soccer Program has three levels, frosh-soph, junior varsity, and varsity, and competes during the winter.  The teams begin try-outs and training during the summer when they compete in a weekly summer league against neighboring schools.  The program then begins it’s before and after school training in the fall.  In the winter, preseason and league play begin.  The Trinity League for soccer is comprised of Rosary, Mater Dei, Santa Margarita, Orange Lutheran, and J.Serra.  Our home field is at Cal State Fullerton, though sometimes the teams will compete at Servite High School.  Though there are variations in the schedule based on tournaments and field space, games usually start at 3:15 PM with both teams playing on adjacent fields.

2008-2009 Season
Last season, Rosary soccer capitalized early by using their talent-laden roster to perform well in the Foothill Roundtable Tournament and in a mid-season trip to Catalina to thrash Avalon HS.  The ball rarely seemed to bounce their way in league, however, as several last-minute defeats and ties were endured by the squad.  The final league match against JSerra, though, was a testament to the never-say-die attitude of the squad, as they played a complete game in handling the visitors 3-1.  The final Trinity tally of one win and one tie in eight matches does not capture the essence of what was a hard-fought and competitive league season.

Senior dynamo Lauren Olvera was selected first-team All-Trinity League, while steady sophomore ball-handler Chelsea Patterson was given a second-team citation.  Freshman forward Tayler Dragoo lead the team in goals, while junior Kaleigh Moses tallied the most assists.  In all, 19 different players scored for Royal FC during their 10-9-4 campaign.

A Servite graduate, Coach Sean Melendez enters his first year at the helm of the Royals.  He has incredible playing experience, earning a scholarship to Cal State Sacramento and then moving on to play professionally and win a National Championship with the Utah Blitzz (currently Real Salt Lake).

His coaching experience is a testament to his knowledge, as he led his team to CIF titles in Northern California.

With scads of returning talented juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, the fortunes of the soccer team should take an upswing in 2010.
