Fall 2007 Rosary Athletics Highlights
It was a great season for our fall competing sports. Beginning with golf, Rosary enjoyed both
league and postseason success. The golf
team came in third and advanced to the CIF playoffs, where they enjoyed a program
best when they placed higher than ever before.
They were led by senior Brittany Bogard, who also qualified for CIF in
individuals. Bogard advanced to the
second round and earned First Team All-Trinity League honors. Brittany’s
twin sister, Lane, and freshman Lloyd Hoehle also played tennis during their
time on the golf team. Finally, this
season marked Coach Don Crosby’s 200th victory at Rosary.
Junior Juliana Calabrese and senior Erica Haggerty led the
cross-country team to many successful finishes this season. However, the cross-country team was
frequently marred by injuries; in fact, the team had to finish the season with
only 5 out of 7 varsity runners. While
they did not qualify for CIF after placing fourth in the Trinity League, the
team is excited about the talent of its underclasswomen. Coach Thom Confer expects next year to be a
great one.
Our tennis teams each placed 3rd in the Trinity
League, and the varsity advanced to CIF.
In addition, the varsity team won the CIF First Serve Tournament. Led by singles dynamo Jennifer Buchanan and
doubles partners (and captains), Andrea Gaitan and Courtney Hayward, the team
surprised many opponents this year and had a great time on the courts. This year also marked Coach Dick Fumanti’s 20th
year at Rosary.
Finally, our varsity volleyball team finished in 4th
place and qualified for CIF. They upset second seed Murrieta in the first round
of CIF play, but were then defeated in the second round. The team was led by senior captains Liz
Doeling and Kelly Correa as well as junior Nicole Favreau. Setter Katie Mullen and returning libero
Chanel Araujo were key players in this year’s battle for one of the Trinity
league’s top spots. One special moment from this season was defeating Mater
Dei, which the team hadn’t done in several years. In addition, there were also two sets of
sisters on the team: seniors Liz and Christina Doeling and senior Margaret-Ann
Krieger and sophomore Elizabeth Krieger.
Finally, The JV team finished in 3rd place, and under their first
year coach, Becky Acosta, the frosh-soph team dominated the Trinity league and
came in first.
